Event Cape Town Minstrel Carnival
Date 02. Jan. 2018 - 31. Dec. 2017  12:00 - 00:00
Location CBD Cape Town, Cape Town, Western Cape,
Type Festivals
Description Kaapse klopse’ or Cape Town Minstrel Carnival: The city of Cape Town comes alive to celebrate new year in a raucous carnival the likes of which are not seen elsewhere in the world, unless you’re ready to compare it with the mardi gras in New Orleans and the carnevale in Rio de Janeiro, which it isn’t, not quite, although certainly it has its roots therein. The Cape Town Minstrel Carnival, as it’s officially known, takes place every year at new year when thousands of musicians, singers, dancers and tailors connected to them, gear themselves for the traditional ‘Kaapse klopse’ or ‘Coon carnival’ (its more common name - although this isn’t a particularly politically correct term in the ‘new South Africa’). The origin of the carnival stretches back to the 19th century and has its origins in the time of slavery in Cape Town, when the original citizens of District Six were allowed their one day off on January 1st. The event, which has developed a distinct Cape flavour, is also supposed to have ties to the minstrel entertainers who stopped off in Cape Town on huge American ocean liners, over 100 years ago. Over ten thousand costumed, banjo-picking musicians and dancers, their faces painted white, as opposed to the original black-painted faces of the visiting minstrels, parade and march through the streets, followed by a series of dance, singing and costume competitions at Green Point Stadium. With band names like ‘dixies’, ‘the district six band’, and songs like ‘take me to Mannenberg’, this is a celebration of life and new year, rather than a reflection on the days of slavery, for most of those involved are third or fourth generation, and the more garish the costume, and the more the banjo tunes can make your feet tap, the better.

Event Into the Castle 2018
Date 26. Jan. 2018 - 27. Jan. 2018  12:00 - 17:00
Location Castle of Good Hope, Corner Buitenkant & Darling Streets, Cape Town, South Africa, Cape Town, Western Cape,
Type Festivals
Description vent Details Into the Castle 2018 Into the Castle is an adventurous extension taking the Into the Valley project outside of Europe, all the way to Cape Town. This leg of Into The Valley will be held January 26-27, 2018. As the festival name indicates it will take place at a castle; the Castle of Good Hope. The focus will be on advance electronic music but more local African artists will be included in the lineup, paying homage to the lands where ancient rhythms were born. The overall concept will be applied also here, and the castle itself will certainly make its mark on the whole experience. The Castle of Good Hope is associated with a lot of injustices historically but we think it’s time to use it as a manifest for a better and more hopeful future. Into the Castle is all about freedom and reclaiming it " for everyone. Equality in all forms is totally fundamental. Event Colour Conference 2018
Date 11. Apr. 2018 - 14. Apr. 2018  18:00 - 20:00
Location Hillsong Church South Africa, Kinetic Way Off Century Boulevard Century, Cape Town, South Africa, Cape Town, Western Cape,
Type Business Events
Description Event Details Colour Conference 2018 My prayer… is that we shall continue to be a global sisterhood who champion the feminine heart in all her beauty and brilliance. My prayer… is that as we “set sail” in our own convictions and calling, we will continue to bless the world we inhabit with unshakable faith and hope. My prayer… is that every daughter " regardless of age, background, culture or ethnicity " will know that she is believed in and that her story and place within society matters. The Colour Conference heads into the future with these convictions in mind. Proverbs 31 paints a metaphor of a striking and influential woman " “She is like a trading ship, that sails to faraway places and brings back exotic surprises”. I’m sure the merchant ships of ancient times brought back surprises of silk and spices and the like, but for me, the metaphor speaks of an enriched and awakened life in Christ " a life that brings wisdom and goodness into the everyday rooms of everyday life. I’m believing that in 2018, the Spirit of God has impartations and surprises for all of us. I pray that you (and everyone you choose to bring) will join me as we continue to set bold sail into the “glorious” days that await us. He loves you. Believes in you. And has a fabulous future planned for you. See you in 2018. Love always, Bobbie.

Event Two Oceans Marathon
Date 30. Mar. 2018 - 31. Mar. 2018  06:30 - 17:00
Location Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, Rhodes Drive, Newlands, Cape Town, Cape Town, Western Cape,
Type Public Sports Events
Description The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon is run under the rules of IAAF, Athletics South Africa and Western Province Athletics. A marathon with global appeal is the Two Oceans Marathon. Hosted in the beautiful sea side city of Cape Town, the Two Oceans marathon attracts some 20 000 participants who willingly taken on 56 kilometres of open road and challenging mountain climbs. An interesting feature of the route of Two Oceans Marathon, is as the name indicates, it passes both oceans surrounding the South African shoreline - the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. It is therefore as stunning as it is challenging. Runners begin their journey in Newlands and head out towards Noordhoek. It’s then that the most spectacular portion of the marathon begins - Chapmans Peak. The Two Oceans Marathon route didn’t include Chapmans Peak for a few years because of the danger of regular rock falls that led to the closure of this mountain pass. However, R156 million and a few engineering and construction feats later, Chapmans peak was reopened and was re-included into the Two Oceans Marathon route - much to the delight of regular entrants. The toughest part of the Two Oceans Marathon, is undoubtedly the mountain climb known as the ‘Suikerbossie Pass’. After you’ve enjoyed the scenery of Chapmans peak and you’ve passed through the relative flats of Hout Bay, every ounce of remaining energy will be used as you climb this monstrous hill. The screams of supporters will edge you on to the top of this hill where you’re greeted by the welcome sight of the Atlantic Ocean. Ultra Marathon Route: Chapman’s Peak Drive re-opened in December 2003, nearly 4 years after the scenic road was closed because of dangerous rock falls. The new road includes a number of additional safety features, such as 1560 metres of high energy catch fences and two curved canopy structures totalling 81 metres in length. The construction costs were in excess of R157 million. Half Marathon Route: The half marathon route is along the same course as the ultra marathon for the first 6 km. Thereafter runners veer west through Plumstead and Constantia before reaching Rhodes Drive in Newlands and finishing at the UCT Upper Campus sports fields. Race Distances: ULTRA Marathon 56 kilometres (34.8 miles) HALF Marathon 21.1 kilometres (13.1 miles)
